Troubleshooting

The fixes for the things that actually go wrong.

A friend shows as private
Their Steam Game details setting isn't public. On Steam: profile → Edit Profile → Privacy Settings → set Game details to Public. Changes usually show up within a few minutes. Step-by-step guide.
Everyone shows 0 hours
Steam has a separate “Always keep my total playtime private” checkbox under Game details. When it's ticked, games still appear but playtime reads as zero — which also makes them look unplayed.
“We couldn't find that profile”
Custom URL names are the part after steamcommunity.com/id/ — not the display name you see in chat, which isn't unique. When in doubt, paste the full profile link. How to find a profile link.
A game we both play isn't listed
Family Sharing: Steam's API lists games each person owns. Borrowed games only count if they were played in the last two weeks. Free-to-play games only appear once they've been launched.
Steam is down or slow
We depend on Steam's API. If it's having a moment, comparisons fail with a “Steam isn't responding” message — wait a minute and try again.
Billing: cancel, change plan, invoices
Open your account menu → Plan & billing. You can switch plans, cancel (you keep Premium until the end of the paid period), update your card and download invoices. Still stuck? Contact us.
The Discord bot says I'm not linked
Run /link in Discord and open the link within an hour. Sign in through Steam on that page, then press Link to Discord.

General questions

Do I have to sign in?

No. Paste profile links, SteamID64s or custom URL names and compare. Signing in through Steam (on Steam's own site — we never see your password) lets you pick friends from your Steam friends list.

Why can't you see a friend's games?

Their Steam "Game details" privacy setting is probably set to Friends Only or Private. It's separate from profile visibility. We'll tell you exactly who is hidden, still compare everyone else, and give you a message to send them with the one-minute fix.

Is it free?

Yes. Comparisons for up to 8 players, filters, roulette, group votes and share links are free. Premium adds bigger groups (up to 16), saved groups and Discord bot extras.

What do you store?

We don't store game libraries — they're fetched from Steam when you compare. If you sign in we keep your Steam ID, display name and avatar. Share and vote links store the Steam IDs in that group plus a short summary. Usage stats are anonymous counts with no IDs attached.

Does it work with Steam Family Sharing?

Partly. Steam's API lists games each person owns. Borrowed games played in the last two weeks count too, but borrowed games nobody has played recently won't appear.

Is this made by Valve?

No. WeBothPlay is an independent project that uses the public Steam Web API. It isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Valve.
